Happy New Year, Everyone!

Since we are still within the first quarter of 2021, it's not too late to do a quick 2020 recap. We posted about our #top9 on instagram, which were the posts our audience loved the most in 2020 (sponsored by the IG algorythm).

As we said, the competition was fierce since a lot of platforms had to pivot from offline to online. But we still were able to grow in this space, thanks to you all <3.

We wanted to post a #top9of2020 on our blog as well - but this time with a twist.

Here is the #top9of2020 chosen by us ---- the posts our team loved the most in 2020.

1. #Supportelaka

our first fundraiser! We can’t believe we able to raise 3600$ to support Elaka in making maternal health accessible to disadvantage communities in DR Congo.

2. The Congolese Women's Forum ‘20

Originally planned for March 2020 but had to be post-poned because of the pandemic. But when its meant to be, its meant to be. We finally were able to host a smaller, intimate, and socially distance event in September 2020. And the great news is that we filmed it and it is available on youtube forever !

3. #AmplifyCentralAfrica

We were so excited when @beyonce's Black Parade list of Black-owned businesses was released and later updated to feature African owned businesses as well.
⁣⁣
But Looking through that list we noticed there was a lack of representation of Central African owned brands or services.⁣⁣ That’s when it clicked for us - and this post was created !

#AmplifyCentralAfrica is now an ongoing theme that will be pushing more going forward.

Tune in for our Youtube live with Dr. Arsene Nganga on The Central African influence in the Americas.

4. Vogue Challenge

In the summer of 2020 when everyone was posting a black square on IG in support of black owned businesses and talent - the #VogueChallenge was came about.
At a time where the world is paying attention more than ever, instead of a #voguechallenge maybe we can focus on amplifying black owned publications instead ? ⁣

5. Dr. Jérôme Munyangi

The brain behind Madagascar’s coronavirus herbal remedy known as COVID-Organics. We had to put him on our #top9of2020 list , a big moment for the Diaspora contribution.

6. Congo Square  and Juneteenth feature

It all started when we wanted to highlight Juneteenth weekend, so we started researching connections between African Americans and Congo. And we learned about this

7. African Luxury

Because it is ! Craft matters. Pay the fair price for handmade work.

8 .Michelle obama

Michelle, always an inspiration. Her documentary had us thinking, what if the previous Congolese First Ladies could also tell their story ?

9. Shakira

Her performance at the 2020 super bowl sounded very familiar and that’s when we learned about Champeta.

10. Jean depara

His photographs are always posted but not enough people talk about the man behind the lens.
